Vision Angels players have been putting in work since their worst defeat to current champion, Commissioners (f). The team revamped practices, instituting stiff measures as well. No practice, no game!
Is all that paying off? It will have to take their first game in the second phase in order to measure that.
Last night, Ebony Manyango led her side in a thriller of a match. Although they started slowly, they gradually gained momentum. Ebony led all scorers with 20PTS, 18REB.
Her highlight of the game came when in the dying seconds of the game, Desert Knight took a point lead. With six seconds on the clock and no time out, she drove to the basket and was foul.
Ebony made one of two from the line which sent the game into OT. It was all Angels in the over time and that is history!
Captain, Makagbah Syllah was instrumental as well. She contributed 19PTS to go along with seven rebounds. Makagbah burst into tears during a time-out when Desert Ladies took a point lead with 10 secs left.
“I love winning and that is why I cried then. I thought we had thrown the game away at that time,” she spoke to Liberiabasketball.net after the game.
Precious Johnson who wasn’t 100%, battling malaria played the full game including over time and had a double double, 16PTS, 10REB.
Precious was not the only player battling malaria. Marline Jackson and Nadine Seklawi were both also under the weather.
Desert Ladies on the other hand started with only five players and no sub. It was later other players joined them. It was clear it would only be a matter of time for fatigue or foul issues to take its toll.
By the end of the game, three of their top five players foul out and they had to play most of the OT with just four players.
Selina B Jallah led her team with 16PTS. Agnes S Yarba was having a great game with 10PTS, 15REB but could not stay out of foul trouble and by the fourth quarter had her fifth foul.
Elizabeth Ocquaye aka Burky, was a monster on the boards. She had a whooping 20 rebounds and six blocks. Unfortunately, she fouled out of the game late in the fourth quarter.
Vision Angels will need at least two more wins to make it to the semi-finals playoff.
