Bulls have Barrolle not feeling so ‘Mighty.’ If the reigning champ is looking for a repeat as champions, the Bushrod Bulls is finally their yardstick to measure their quality of play.
The lads from Bushrod Island have sent a strong message to Barrolle already twice this season. Even with the new addition to the squad since their meltdown defeat, Brian Nyangbe and their three imports, the only difference is that Barrolle lost by fewer margins this time around.
Their demeanor should have been a warning sign to their coaching staff. The Barrolle players were still in street clothes parading inside the SKD Gym even after the first match had concluded and they were up next.
Bushrod Bulls, on the other hand, were already dressed awaiting the floor to clear so that they could begin their warm-up.
When Barrolle finally got ready and hit the floor, one could not help but notice no fiery spirit in their warm-up as a team.
“I don’t think Barrolle is here to play,” remarked a spectator in attendance. “They are acting the same way the Bulls did the last time.”
The spectator was referring to the Bulls loss against I.E. wherein the Bulls were very passive, in their entry, which was seen as unusual by some in attendance.
Although Barrolle won the first quarter easily 20-15, they went flat in the subsequent one, managing to score only five points! Kudos mainly to the Bulls relentless 2-2-1 full court press. This led to turnovers from the Barrolle players.
Barrolle had a season high 32 TOs!
In the final minutes of the third, Barrolle tried to trap the Bulls players around the mid court, it yielded a couple of turn overs which surprisingly didn’t yield to buckets.
The Bulls were flat in the final quarter, managing to score a meager eight points. Unfortunately, Barrolle also struggled to capitalize on their drought.
Carlos Marshall led all scorers with 14 PTS, 7REB, 5STL to go along with three dimes. He also got contributions from his younger brother, Fedolph Marshall (11PTS, 7REB, 2BLK).
Brian Nyangbe led Barrolle in scoring, with 12PTS, but was loose with the ball, raking five turnovers. At some point he seems to be hugging the ball to the chagrin of some of his teammates. He was substituted midway in the fourth and would later return sinking a three as time almost expired.
The Bulls have definitely bounced back after failing to Invincible Eleven. In an interview after the game, Coach Erik Coopers of the Bulls said, “My players were going through some mental issues before that loss. Currently we are focused on the task ahead which is to win this year’s league.”
He took the time to thank all of their fans and supporters for being there for the team.
