Lonestar is the name given to the National Teams in Liberia. The name relates to both the soccer and basketball teams.

There are evidence, as in the picture above, that women has been playing basketball for many years in the country.

The photo above is an archive image showing the Lonstar team in 1963.

In 2005, the female team took part in the 17th FIBA Africa Championship for Women which was hosted by Nigeria from December 20 to 28. It was a host and win affair. This is recorded on Wikipedia.

Further research by Liberiabasketball.net was futile.

Unfortunately no record from the tournament showed that the team actually did play a match.

The Liberian female team is unranked in the FIBA World Ranking Presented By Nike.

There is no doubt Liberians are  lovers of the sport and highly patronize it, but it is about time great measures are given to the Lonestar national teams for basketball.

With structured programs, there can be massive growth.

Currently there are a number of programs involving girls in basketball. One which stands out is Rebound Liberia.

Others such as Mama Jama engages girls in their communities.

The LBA runs a female league.
