Pythons of the National Port Authority went up against the Invincible Eleven in their rescheduled match which was postponed and relocated to the Samuel Kanyon Doe Gym in Paynesville, outside Monrovia.
It was their first match for this season played at that venue. Same with the Yellow Boys, coming from an emphatic win against Bushrod Bulls who were scheduled to play at the same venue in the second game of the day.
Some fans were of the notion that the match is a payback, referring to the lost I.E. suffered from the hands of Pythons in the previous phase.
The NPA Pythons, playing yet again without their point guard Jerry Willie who has been out for over five games due to knee injury, started sharp. Sam Paye made quick two jumpers in the paint off assists from his team mates.
Despite starting hot, I.E. was still able to win the first quarter 11-16. Shaun Eastman was the x-factor as he hit two long range shots sending the crowd into a frenzy.
Pythons upped their defense in the second half, holding the Yellow Boys to only nine points in the third quarter while they added twenty of their own. It was their smoldering D which was evidence as it kept I.E. from having open looks.
Both teams handled the ball carelessly in the final quarter. While Pythons switch to man on man defense, I.E. struggled in answering to the switch as they too turned the ball over in successions.
Both teams had to dig it out from the free-throw line.
I.E. could not muster an extra effort as the time expired giving Pythons the much needed win.
Joel Martor, Sam Paye and John Williams Jr scored 12PTS, 12PTS and 10PTS respectively for their side, while Shaun Eastman led all scoreres with 16PTS, 2REb and 2AST for I.E. Willie Brown contributed 10PTS for the Sun Shine Yellow Boys and had the crowd into his euro steps.
Pythons is now 2-1 in Phase Two while I.E. is .500, winning one against Bushrod Bulls but losing today.
